D.C. Tree - Synopsis

What starts as a typical Metro human interest story of a Texan man protesting the Federal Housing Lottery by sitting up a tree turns into a story of political corruption that has Redmond and Anne travelling to Texas to investigate claims of "Houses for Favours" against Senator William Monkton.

Cassy Swann stumbles on to an international espionage story but runs foul of veteran snake-in-the-grass National reporter Evan Lamont who threatens her into handing over the story to him. However the CIA get wind of their intention to publish and put pressure on Jo-Jo Turner to prevent publication on the grounds of National Security. He kills the story completely.

Dory and Hasky, acting on a tip from a source, uncover a scandal involving several High Court Judges dismissing cases for favours. However in the course of their investigation Hasky calls into question Dory's methods, putting pressure on their working relationship and their friendship.

Clay gives Fineberg the chance to write up several obituaries but when one of the other reporters plays a practical joke on him and he unwittingly submits an obituary of Donald Duckinski, mourned by his nephews Huey, Lewey and Dewey, Clay has to intervene at the 11th hour.

Anne and Redmond admit that they are enjoying working with each other and that they each bring complementary skills to their job. Dory and Hasky argue and it becomes clear that Hasky carries a torch for Dory. In the meantime however, Dory, who is obviously in love with Redmond, is becoming more uncomfortable with the growing professional and personal relationship between Redmond and Anne.
